Amzel DeDios, a 40 year old, alleged a back injury while working as a Registered Nurse for County of San Mateo, California. VRC Investigations obtained subpoenaed employment records which showed DeDios had been working full time for another employer while TTD starting the month after filing her injury with County of San Mateo. During her deposition, DeDios denied any concurrent employment or income while receiving workers’ comp benefits.
The claimant told the AME that she had been off work from the date of her injury. VRC Investigations forwarded the subpoenaed employment records to the AME who issued a supplemental report noting claimant made material misrepresentation and lowered the disability rating to 8%.
VRC Investigations’ SIU submitted a fraud referral for attempted theft to PD to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office and 3 Felony counts of insurance fraud were filed and the claimant was arrested. DeDios plead guilty and was sentenced to 3 years’ probation, 90 days in jail and ordered to pay $5,500 in restitution including investigation costs.
